Honda Recalls 4.5 Million Vehicles Worldwide for Fuel Pump Failure and Fire Risk

Recall Details and Impact

The recall initiated by Honda Motor’s American unit affects approximately 4.5 million vehicles worldwide. Of this total, 2.54 million vehicles need to be inspected and repaired in the United States alone. This recall follows previous recalls in 2021 and 2020, where Honda recalled 628,000 and 136,000 US vehicles, respectively, for the same fuel pump issue.

In response to this recall, Honda dealers will replace the fuel pump modules in the affected vehicles. Honda plans to notify owners in early February, urging them to take their vehicles to authorized dealers for inspection and necessary repairs.

According to Honda, there have been no reported injuries resulting from the fuel pump failure. However, the automaker has received 4,042 warranty claims associated with this issue since 2018. By initiating this recall, Honda aims to address the potential safety concerns and ensure the ongoing reliability and performance of their vehicles.

The recall covers multiple models manufactured between 2018 and 2020, including popular Honda models such as the Accord, Civic, CR-V, HR-V, Insight, Ridgeline, Odyssey, Passport, as well as various Acura models including the ILX, MDX, RDX, RLX, TLX, and NSX vehicles.

Honda has stated that the replacement parts being used in this recall are designed with improved density and expanded clearance, providing greater protection and durability.

This latest recall comes after Honda’s recent recall of approximately 106,030 CR-V hybrid vehicles. The vehicles were found to have a potential fire or injury risk as a result of an overheated battery cable or short circuit that could occur during a crash.
