Millions in NFT Thefts: The Aftermath and Intriguing Motivations

Losses of Nearly $3 Million in VeeFriends and World of Women NFTs

According to Revoke.cash, NFT Trader has reported losses amounting to nearly $3 million, affecting NFTs from VeeFriends and World of Women.

Insights into the Attacker’s Motivations and Intentions

In a public communication, one of the attackers provided some insights into their motivations and intentions. Initially, the attacker claimed to have targeted the platform to collect what they referred to as “residual garbage.” However, they later discovered the opportunity to pilfer NFTs as well.

Despite acknowledging the substantial value of the stolen NFTs, the attacker expressed indifference to their monetary worth, stating, “I’m a good person, the value of these NFTs is enough for a person to live a free life, but I don’t care about that.” The attacker demanded a 10% bounty in Ether (ETH) from the victims in exchange for returning their stolen NFTs. They explained that retrieving all the affected NFTs at once was beyond their capabilities and consumed significant time and energy. According to the attacker’s statement, “My technical skills are limited, I can’t get all the affected NFTs at once, and it’s costing me a lot of energy and time.”

Surprising Return of NFTs and Crypto by the Attacker

In a surprising turn of events, the victim shared on social media, “And now the hacker just sent me 31 ETH?”

Following the security breach at NFT Trader, users are strongly advised to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures to safeguard their NFT assets. The platform has already identified and publicly disclosed the addresses targeted by the attackers, demonstrating its commitment to promptly addressing the issue.

An investigation is currently underway to assess the extent of the damage and identify any potential vulnerabilities in NFT Trader’s security infrastructure. Users are encouraged to stay updated on the progress of the investigation and follow any security recommendations provided by the platform.
