Intel’s Plan to Compete with Nvidia in the AI Chip Market

Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger recently unveiled the tech firm’s strategy to build a $20 billion plant in Ohio during an announcement made at the White House campus in Washington. In addition to this huge investment, Intel also introduced its latest line of computer chips, including Gaudi3, an artificial intelligence chip specifically designed for generative AI software.

The current market dominance of Nvidia GPUs in cloud-based AI models, such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT, has prompted other companies like AMD and Intel to develop their own chips to compete for a share of this lucrative market. With Gaudi3, Intel aims to attract AI companies away from Nvidia by offering a strong alternative to the popular H100 chip commonly used to power AI applications and AMD’s upcoming MI300X, set to be released in 2024.

Although Intel has provided limited details about Gaudi3, the company has been working on the development of these chips since 2019 following its acquisition of chip developer Habana Labs.
