Guidelines for Password Sharing from Netflix
By releasing its password-sharing standards, Netflix has taken another step in its campaign to stop password sharing. The new guidelines will be implemented as soon as possible, beginning with users in Canada, New Zealand, Portugal, and Spain.
Location Primary and Sub-Accounts
In order to maintain account security, Netflix is requesting that customers in these nations designate a “principal location” for their accounts. Users will also be permitted to create up to two “sub-accounts” for users who don’t live in the primary area.
Fees for Additional Users
However, the corporation will charge an additional price of CA$7.99 in Canada, NZ$7.99 in New Zealand, 3.99 euros in Portugal, and 5.99 euros in Spain per additional user if a household needs more than two sub-accounts.
Impact on Investment in Outstanding New Television and Film
Over 100 million families share accounts, according to Chengyi Long, Director of Product Innovation at Netflix, which hinders the company’s capacity to make investments in new TV series and movies.
Control devices and access
A new “Manage Access and Devices” page that will let customers control who has access to their accounts has also been released by Netflix along with these modifications. Users can move excess profiles to a new account to avoid paying the overage cost if an account has more profiles than the maximum number permitted.
