Dimensional Energy Raises $20M to Lead the Shift towards Sustainable Aviation Fuel

Expansion Plans and Sustainable Product Development

With the freshly acquired capital, Dimensional Energy intends to construct an advanced power-to-liquid fuels plant. The plant will leverage emissions from Lafarge’s Richmond Cement Plant in British Columbia, Canada, in collaboration with carbon capture tech company Svante. Additionally, a portion of the funds will be allocated to develop a 200-barrel-per-day commercial power-to-liquid facility in New York. Furthermore, the company aims to introduce its first consumer (B2C) and B2B products. These products include fossil-free surf wax and a cruelty-free fat alternative specifically tailored for vegan food companies.

Earlier this year, Dimensional Energy entered into a sustainable aviation fuel offtake agreement with aircraft manufacturer, Boom Supersonic. Under this agreement, Boom will purchase up to 5 million gallons of SAF annually for its airliner flight test program. United Airlines, an investor in Dimensional Energy, also signed a 300 million-gallon offtake agreement deal in the previous year.

Revenue Generation and Future Plans

Dimensional Energy generates revenue through contracted offtake agreements. The company’s CEO, Salfi, revealed that they are actively seeking additional long-term contracts with airlines and specialty chemical companies. The company also plans to expand its business through partnerships with engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) firms.

According to Salfi, “Over the last several decades, low carbon power and efficiency gains have been deployed at scale.” He emphasizes the urgent need for rapid decarbonization across all sectors. Microsoft’s senior director of the climate innovation fund, Brandon Middaugh, expressed optimism in Dimensional Energy’s potential as a cleaner, lower carbon aviation solution, alongside reductions in industrial emissions.

Other Renewable Aviation Fuel Manufacturers

While Dimensional Energy stands out for its diverse range of skills and backgrounds, other players in the renewable aviation fuel market include LanzaTech, Neste, Gevo, and World Energy. Dimensional Energy sets itself apart with its unique specialization, although specific details were not disclosed. Yong Hyun Kim, managing partner of Envisioning Partners, commends Dimensional Energy’s mix of technology, catalyst expertise, and project development capabilities, positioning the company for rapid global scale-up.
